Gemälde mit dem noch jungen Zaren Peter I. Dieser blickt erhaben aus einem dunklen Bildhintergrund hervor. Aufgrund seiner dunklen, eher inoffiziellen Jacke, tritt der Hermelin Pelzkragen deutlich hervor und adelt den jungen Mann. Durch den Verzicht auf Insignien, prunkvolle Kleidung und die Betonung der individuellen Gesichtszüge bekommt das Gemälde einen sehr persönlichen Charakter.

Es ist denkbar, dass das Portrait in der Werkstatt Johann Kupecky (1666 – 1740) oder gar aus dessen Hand stammt. Der Künstler schuf mehrere Portraits des Zaren.

Painting with the still young Tsar Peter I.. Due to his dark, rather unofficial jacket and the dark background the focus of the painting is based just on the face of the proud emperor. The ermine fur collar stands out clearly and ennobles the young man. Without any insignia or ostentatious clothing and the accentuation on individual facial features, the painting gets a very personal character. The painting could have been painted in workshop of Johann Kupeckys or probabaly by himself.
